I think it was me who posted about Ray Gasorowski of Romic and Imron. I've been told offlist that though Ray did die of cancer, it was not connected to his painting or Imron, or so the family believed. Not sure how one would completely disprove the contribution of a potential carcinigen to such an outcome, but perhaps there were strong hereditary factors that the family identified as the likely cause. In addition to my custom built Romic track bike, a junior road bike for my daughter when she was young, and the recently acquired Romic touring bike, Ray also resprayed three frames for me back in the 80's - a 1973 LeJeune, a 1972 Windsor Pro and an early 80's Austro-Daimler Superleicht. He was certainly the best known framebuilder and painter in the Houston for a number of years, and his frames had a surprising;y wide distribution, probably thanks to his former association with Schwinn. My touring Romic has a sticker from a Minneapois LBS.
