Marc:  According to the recent article in Bicycle Quarterly, the article by Jan Heine states in the interview that the racks were made in a quantity (almost mass produced for that sort of item) they were then stored until it was pulled for a bike.  At that time a tab was brazed on and the bike serial number stamped on that tab.  Then the racks were painted to match the bikes.     I personally do not know if there were any 'generic' ones on the loose or sold separately.  It would be very nice to have a set.  Now that being said, what is an appropriate substitute or is there such a heresy?   Then on to the subject of the man who holds the trailer.......would you be willing to steal it for me?       BT

Hi Bruce,

I'm a JT owner #8232 who has been looking for the front rack for mine for as many years as I have owned the bike. Problem is that these are "numbers matching" articles, so folks tend to hold onto their racks if they have the originals (and of course, the bike). Although my front rack is out there somewhere, I think it is definitely an exception to the norm.

The trailers? Don't know. I would guess that they are closely held as well. I do know of a collector in my little vintage group that has one, but I doubt he'd be willing to part with it.

Regards,
