I was there in 1974. Bernard Thevenet was in the race, I think maybe even led for a bit early on. But I'm pretty sure Gimondi was not there, or at least not racing. As I recall he had crashed badly earlier in the year, and was still recovering. I note in his palmares that his only significant victory in 1974 was Milano-San Remo, which tends to support my recollection.
