I have had a rather strange thing happen, and what's weird it has happene
d twice. I store my parts and spare wheels in the shop/garage behind my hou
se. All my wheels are hanging from hooks, and a few bikes are out there too
. I pulled down my wife's 80's Specialized Expedition this morning for an a
fternoon ride together. While airing up the tyres, I noticed the rear wheel
is out of true. So I put the wheel in the truing stand and while doing so,
I noticed that the hub flange was broken. About ten years ago, the same th
ing happened to a spare wheel that was hanging in the shop, same hub, 40 ho
le Specialized. These wheels were not over tightened and are of symetrical
design. I'm glad this didn't happen while on tour, somewhere in the wild ou
