Subject: [CR] Stolen Kessels Eddy Merckx Los Angeles area

A college friend of mine and her husband just got their bikes stolen from their locked garage in South Pasadena. Her bike is an OT new Specialized Dolce with Tiagra, not hard to replace. His bike is a Kessels-made Eddy Merckx that was a gift from his Belgian grandfather and has great sentimental value.

The Merckx has a distinctive white to blue fade repaint which may not appeal to most of you but may help in its recovery. If anyone sees a bike resembling this please contact me. Even if it's been parted out we'd like to recover the frame.

Last weekend we went riding and these are the details as I can best remember:

Early to mid 1970s Eddy Merckx made by Kessels of Belgium 58cm-60cm estimated size Reynolds 531 butted tubing all around, lugged Original paint was Molteni Orange, repainted a white to blue fade Black Eddy Merckx type logo decal on downtube Original Eddy Merckx pasta-box portrait with champion stripes decals on seat tube and head tube Original pink Giro D'Italia and yellow Tour de France decals on seat tube

Campagnolo Nuovo Record derailleurs Campagnolo Nuovo Record brake calipers and levers Campagnolo Nuovo Record Strada crankset Campagnolo Nuovo Record headset Campagnolo Nuovo Record pedals with plastic half-clips Wheels: Rigida clincher rims laced with butted spokes to Campy Record hubs 6-speed freewheel, slightly lower gears than a typical racing cluster Pantographed Campy seatpost, colorful card suits but didn't see a name on it 3TTT bars and stem Selle San Marco Rolls saddle, brownish

Sadly they weren't able to take a photo of it or record a serial number, but it's very similar to this bike, same lugs and details:
