Do what you darned well please with your bike. But the same arguements f or using modern pedals and shoes on a classic CR period racing bike (efficiency, comfort etc) can be used to justify replacement of EVERY single original component on the same bike from derailleur system, shifters, saddle, wheelset to the Spiderman spandex body suit you think yo u look really hot wearing. Indeed, are steel frames as "efficient" as carb on fibre?? Don't know. Or care. So it gets back to "Why do I collect and ride classic racing bikes". And if you can answer "efficiency" and "practicality", I give up entirely! You might as well collect snow shovels .
