I used rope rim strips starting in the late 1970s with Super Champion rims on several different wheelsets. They lasted a long time, whereas the thin rubber rim strips could break over time, typically around the valve hole. Other than being more sturdy, I couldn't say they worked better than rubber strips for my use. .....Peter
