So I too sought to get to the bottom of this, and asked Roger Young, who rode on the track and on the road for 7-11. Here is his response regarding the construction of the Murray and Huffy bikes: ******************* "The 7-Eleven track bikes were branded Murray. Huffy was on the bikes of the Raleigh Team. Rossin made the first track bikes for the team, then when Murray became the sponsor Ben Serotta made the bikes for 1984. Connie Paraskevin's bike was made by Eddy Merckx. Curt Harnett's bike was a Gardin.
We never had trouble with the True Temper tubing, though we did find some experimental designs did not endure well, but with corrections we never had problems in competition and no one had a mishap that caused any injury.
I did ride the bikes and never had any trouble at all myself."

He now lives nearby and I have the pleasure of riding with him just about every Friday....

With all this talk about Huffy track bikes, I stumbled across a photo in the July 87 Bicycle Guide which shows two 7-Eleven riders on what appear to be Serotta built MURRAY track bikes painted all red except for the white Murray lettering on the DT. There is one bike that Huffy did make for the 7-Eleven team and that was the 87,88 time trial bike. It was done by Mike Melton at the Huffy design center using aluminum aero tubes. Not to confuse the issue, Serotta also made a few TT bikes as well for the team. The Huffy built bike seems to be the one you see in much greater quantities. Jerry Jeter, Wildwood, MO
