I met Tom Avenia many times at his shops on 119th Street and West
Haverstraw. He was unforgettable in his passion about bikes, especially Frejus and
Legnano.
He never failed to remind me to go to the criterium races at Somervillle on
Memorial Day, and to bring a camera-"Lots of great crashes, lots of great
crashes." He had a gigantic photograph of himself racing at Somerville on
the wall of his shop.
If you never met him, ask my good friend Norm Hellman to do his perfect
imitation of him.
