Hi Paul, The bike shown is a low level road bike from the late 60s as you said, or early 70s ... with unnamed tubing, bottom of the line Campagnolo Valentino gears, and steel cranks that were about 10 years past their technological prime, and therefore trickled down. Bikes like this usually sell for over $100 and possibly up to about $350 ... IF you are lucky enough to get a couple of good bidders that just have to have that one for some reason. The results of this auction then, are up to TEN TIMES higher than current market value, something I am having a lot of trouble swallowing. Look at the bid history and note that all the bids over the final proxy bid of $167.89 (by bidder "R...T") were in big, even increments, and were made by four different Ebay IDs who were all bidding $500 or more for it. Again ... tough to swallow. The seller is a list member whom I correspond with from time to time regarding Torpados (including this one), Torpado being my "pet" marque. Let's see if Randy chimes in to tell us whether it is a true sale or not. I would expect to see it re-listed again in the future, but of course, anything can happen in the crazy world of Ebay. Things like this set an un-true precedent of value, and potentially skew the bidding habits in the near future. Were any of the high bidders list members, perhaps? We'd love to hear from you on the thought process!
