Jon,
You might try getting the correct size of socket and grind down the OD a bit until it fits. As long as the bolts aren't too tight, it shouldn't break. If that doesn't work, you may have to drill 2 holes in the head of the bolt and use a pin tool to remove the bolts.
The tan color is mainly from yellowing clear. I have one like that myself. I just wet sanded the white areas with 1200 grit sandpaper until most of the yellow was gone. Then a new coat of clear and it looks original, a bit old, but is stable and has patina from it's age. The 531 decal and the inoxidable decals are easily replaced. Best to do that before the new clear coat.
I probably have the der. parts you need; but since I'm moving all my stuff right now I won't be able to find it any time soon. I'll bet there are several others who have the stuff also.
Good luck with her!
Brian Baylis La Mesa, CA USA Yep, I have two PX-10's. Have them for sentimental reasons; it was my first "good" bike.
I need a bit of help with my PX-10.
The Stronglight 93 has under the dustcovers what looks like a 17 mm hex head within a 22 mm hole. I have rounded up the 23.35mm JA Strong Stronglight crank extractor, but need to remove the hex headed bolt first and every thin wall socket I can find has at least a 24 mm OD. How on earth would one remove the bolt?
The previous owner removed the Simplex rear derailleur and managed to lose the mounting bolt. Does anyone have one they would sell me?
I am also looking to buy a replacement front derailleur as the plastic portion of the clamp is broken (or just the plastic part of the clamp).
Many thanks to the large group of you who coached me to repair the original paint rather than strip it and start over. You convinced me and that is my plan. Now I need to know how to find compatible paint of the correct color. It seems quite some distance from pure white - almost tan. Some of this color may be due to weathering - correct?
I think only the Inoxidable and Reynolds decals are beyond saving.
