That sounds like a good tip. I'll bet they would work well with a little oil as opposed to water for lubrication if one was working on rust. When working on or polishing metal, I generally use wet/dry sandpaper or steel or bronze wool with oil. Works great to float off the small particles during the polishing or cleaning.

Further to this topic aired a few weeks ago. In working on vintage cars, I was pointed toward a 3M product. It's their "Scotch Brite" cleaning pads. These vary in abrasiveness and are color coded so be sure to get the blue "no scratch" pads. They're available in any supermarket or hardware store. I wouldn't use them on pristine chrome, but then why would you need to? They will take off almost any rust and even smooth some pitting. I prefer using them wet and the more they're used, the better they get.
