I've usually had trouble making NRs work well with any rear sprocket bigger than the rated 26 teeth, at least with the usual 52/42 chainset. Others may have done better than I.

In friction shifting modes I've never had any problem with 7-speed freewheels, if the chain was appropriately narrow for the freewheel. I've also found them to handle 13 tooth small gears with no problem.
