Barrie is correct. I remember them being called "large flange" in the UK
in the early 1950s. Does anyone remember them being called "high flange"
in the U.S. before that time?
The same goes for "Campag" and "Campy". Is there anyone in the U.S. who heard of "Campy" in the early 1950s, or even Campagnolo? I think "high flange" and "Campy" were coined independently in the U.S. in the bike boom era, long after "large flange" and "Campag" were used in the UK. -- John Betmanis Woodstock, Ontario Canada
