Hi Jack.
I have two suggestions for your boss when he comes to San Francisco. The first is American Cyclery, located in the Haight Asbury neighborhood (itself a sight). This is where a great many locals go for parts and advice on classic bikes. Very nice people.
My other idea would be the Rivendell shop in Walnut Creek. While it's not in the City, there's a local train system that can take him there in about forty five minites, and the Rivendell shop is only one block away. I think this place is great, and the train ride is enjoyable as well.
