All 300 series stainless steel is Austenitic, contains Nickel and has superior corrosion resistance to 400 series stainless which is Martensitic, contains no Nickel and can corrode. 400 series Stainless Steel is much harder, can be hardened further and is far superior as a material for spools in valves, which we make. 400 series spools rust on the shelf in the warehouse just from the moisture in the air if not oiled or coated properly.

A few months past, I posted an inquiry as to what spokes were used on California Masis. (I have the correct rims and hubs) I received numerous responses from knowledgeable members stating that "S" brand spokes were indeed manufactured by ACI (pronounced Aye-Chee), Further inquiry has led me to suspect (maybe) that they were, in fact, associated with Alpina. Check out this Ebay search:

Here is the response I received from a wheelbuilder at California Masi:

"The spokes were "S Brand" 15 ga. straight. Built cross 4. 307mm for ft. and left side rear wheel, 305mm for rear drive side."

BTW, if anyone has these in this size please let me know. I'll pay top dollar.

Here is another response I received off-list: (Start at the bottom)

it doesn't.
alpina was yet another company.

I wonder if the "A" in ACI stands for Alpina? It's never that simple, is it?

Thanks Again,
