Depends upon whether or not what you see as a result of a search at http://search.bikelist.org is what is stored in single files on disk.
Normally, emails arrive and are stored as two files - a header file and a message/body/text file and sent in the same manner. Email clients hide alot from you...
If indeed the archives stores each post as a complete record - not two parts - that would certainly help in off-system delivery, parsing, filtering and publication.
