Sam,

Regarding pinstripes and clear. But first I need to clear up a point. The Schwinn Paramount pictured owned by Scott McKasky was hand pinstriped by a guy I use nearby who Has done lots of box striping for me. I do the stuff around the lugs myself. You asked me a while ago about a Schwinn Paramount you had that had sprayed on pinstripes. I thought yours came from Scott also? Anyway, they are two different painters since I only did the one pictured; which was hand pinstriped.

What it takes with my striper when he askes wheather I'm going to clear the stripes ot not; I tell him yes. He uses whatever paint is proper, since there are two kinds. One is to be cleared over, one is to stay on top. I ask my customers which way they want the stripes; under the clear or over the clear. Invariably they say under the clear. So that's what they get. There is nothing to prevent you from going about it your way for "original like" finish. Just don't polish it too much; the pinstripes will come off.

That's the beauty of having the freedom to choose which way to restore your bike. Ain't America great!
