Hello All,
Schwinn made an aluminum series of Bicycles that had expanding seatposts. The models had names like 963 or similar. They were OS tubing.
If anyone has a need I have a post with no frame (better check I should).
On SA lube. With all do respect SA lube is not 30 w motor oil. It is much much lighter. It' is easy to see by dabbing side by side on paper, it will run off quickly compared to 30 Weight. I think Eugene Sloans books used to recommend 10 weight for SA hubs.
Oil for cars where engine heat is an issue would not seem to work as well for bicycle hubs. As oil heats up it flows more freely. Bicycle hubs should never get very hot in normal use. Rohloff used to make a summer and winter oil because of this for their hubs. A warm 30w might be free flowing enough but a cold 30w oil might lock up the pawls.
Oil too thin will run out of the hub.
Some folks have recommended Marvel Mystery Oil, the DR Bronners or oils, does everything. I haven't tried it but I have used TriFlow (non Paraffin based version) when Sturmey was not available with good results (it flows a little to well or maybe I just over fill it when I use it.
Don't use 3 and one and please don't use WHITE LIGHTNING unless it's from the hills of North Carolina (use only a cleaner and solvent....in the hub or body) as the waxy commercially taxed version gums the pawls up in express fashion and making proper cleaning a chore.
