>>>This is a link to the all 531 lugged steel Trek 660 I bought on eBay a few weeks ago: http://ebay.com/<blah> &photoDisplayType=2#ebayphotohosting I bought it cheap with the intention of robbing the Campy stuff for a 1974 Raleigh International frame I bought from Jason Cloutier at Larz. I was going to replace the Campy with Japanese, probably SunTour Cyclone or Superbe. However, I'm having second thoughts, thinking maybe I should keep this thing original. My question is, how original is it as it stands? The equipment all seems from the same era, I believe the RD is marked 1984. But it is quite a mix of marques, Campy, Mavic, Modolo, SR, Stronglight. Can someine who sold these "in the day" confirm whether this is all original equipment? What would the original pedals have been? Anyone have an opinion as to whether a Trek 660 is classic enough to even worry about originality?<<<<

That Trek 660 is an '84, and looks to be original, except for the wheelset, which is marginally newer. It originally came with Maillard Heilcomatic hubs and Matrix rims, but the rest of the parts mix is right. I have the same Trek, completely original, that I acquired some years back. For a long time I didn't part it out because it was so original, but eventually I succumbed because I needed the wheelset for another project. I have several other Treks (including 770, 760 and 720, also all from '84), and the 660 just became sacrificial. I still have all the other parts and the frame, but I can't recall the original pedals. In '83, the 660 model was very similar (frame-wise), still red but with different decals and a silver head tube. The '83 as "down-scale parts-wise, with a mix of SR and Suntour Blue Line. Interestingly, the '83 had 27" wheels, the '84 had 700c. These frames are really nice riders, if not all that "collectable". Classic? You decide. If you decide you want to sell the frame, let me know.
