Dear 'com,
There is a Campy "special tool" that holds the rear side of the bolt steady while you torque the Allen wrench. It's not expensive. Also using it is another coordination challenge, IMHO.

\r?\n> The reason I ask is I've skinned my knuckles for the xxxx,000 th time. Yes, the
\r?\n> appropriate way to remove or tighten chainring bolts is to put the chain on the
\r?\n> largest ring. But what if you are assembling the rings off the bike, outside of
\r?\n> the factories what have all sorts of fixtures to hold the inside nut thingy with
\r?\n> 2 slots on either side.
\r?\n> Each time, I've wondered who designed this type of nut/bolt for that specific
\r?\n> apllication, and why??
\r?\n> And how come there hasn't been a more suitable alternative that would make much
\r?\n> more sense?
\r?\n> Am I crying over spilled milk?
