Here's one of a pair I did in the mid-80s, http://bulgier.net/pics/bike/Campy/Aero_NR_Lever.html pretty much identical to the one on Ray's Cinelli Laser, but better. ;)

I had never seen it done that way, was improvising, and I think I came up with an improvement. The problem with the Cinelli (and also Ray's other, Masi version) is the pulley diameter is so small that the wire will fray in use. "Wire rope" type cables don't like to be repeatedly bent and unbent over a small diameter pulley.

My pulley is allowed to be larger due to the slot I milled in the front of the lever. It is also a sealed cartridge ball bearing, vs the plain bearing on the Cinelli and Masi. In your FACE Cinelli! Who's your DADDY Masi?!

The cable still frayed though (after a pretty long time racing and training), so this is not recommended for regular riders. Only someone willing to replace cables more frequently and take a chance with their life. ;) The milled slot is perfect for inspecting the wire as it goes over the cable - that's right where it would fail.
