Oh my!

I had no idea why Aldo had chosen this rider to be the subject of this series of photos and I was shocked and upset as I was pulled into the conclusion.

Wow, well that is a drama of life that, although troubling, I thank you Aldo for so skillfully bringing us.

Aldo! Didn't know the history of this rider. Thanks for putting that together.

No, I didn't get there (rats) but I am anxious to hear from attendees and see pics. Please let us all know how it went, what was hot, what you liked best!

I'd like a Trek 710 frame or complete bike from 1979 or 1980 to return to 1986 when we were hit by a cab in Brooklyn.? I got torked a bit but the frame was a twisted disaster.? My body recovered but my heart hasn't forgotten.? Please email any leads, John Squires, Cos Cob, CT.? 917.754.5099

I have one old 48 hole Campy Record rear hub, it's in good shape, but I seldom see any 48 hole rims listed on Ebay. I was just wondering how common are these? Is there a benefit to 48? Thanks. Fred Durrette Summerville, SC

Anyone know what the following bike is that is posted on Ebay:

http://ebay.com/<blah>

The seller refers to it as a Frankenbike (wasn't that the name for Franklin mountain bikes also?), and in the auction shown, that's a fairly apt name for it with all those scars and chips. The person also makes allusions to it as a Schwinn of some sort, including the possibility of it being a 1930's--at least an early version--of the Paramount track. It appears to have the Schwinn yellow color, but it is difficult to tell much because the photos are not terribly good (which, for me, however, builds confidence to find photos worse than mine.)

Cheers.

I've seen a few of these around back in the days. Mostly used for tandems. Probably be a real find for someone trying to restore a vintage tandem.

Which group of Maillard freewheels are these for? Do they fit the later Sachs Maillard Aris parts?

48 hole spoke wheels were common for years on tandem wheels (through the on topic time period and probably up to 1990 or so). Not used very much now. Rims of modern design are available from tandem shops and peter white cycles. As for their rarity, tandems account for about 1% of the bicycle market so I don't expect many are around (although even more than singles tandems tend to sit unused in garages).

Can anyone tell me when 7 speed freewheels became available?? I have a '7 8 Merckx currently equipped with a 6 speed freewheel and would like to keep it more or less original, but wouldn't mind a closer ratio freewheel.

Don't recognize the head-tube lugs, but the striping/lining on the top tube is in the Paramount style. I had an early '60s example with this same lining.
