I had these installed on my Medici back in the day. It was designed for fast wheel changes in races. Problem was you had to have a 5 speed freewheel on a rear hub with 6 speed axle and spacing and they never caught on enough for the following vehicles to have the wheel for you. I found a better use for them while riding the infamous Como St rides. When I would get to front of the paceline going up the hill I would shift the chain down onto holder attached to the frame and everyone would think I lost my chain and pass me. Then I would shift back up, merge into the back of the pack without taking a pull and laughing myself silly. Didn't really need to do it but it was so damn funny and I got away with every time!
