well, from personal experience, I DID have an Italian threaded fixed cup loosen while on a ride. (Bike was a 1980 Gios)

Of course I was not carrying the appropriate wrench so I had to stop several times to hand tighten it before I finished riding. It seemed that no significant damage to the BB occurred.
